8 Reasons to Use Polycarbonate Sheets For Greenhouse

Naturally occurring plants do best when grown in greenhouses, which are designed specifically for the purpose.

A good greenhouse that helps maintain ideal conditions for plant and fruit growth is essential for a fruitful and high-quality harvest.

Temperature, humidity, and lighting must all be kept within certain ranges.

For agronomists and plant enthusiasts, this can be a difficult challenge.

That’s why we’re here to tell you about a material that solves several of the most pressing issues in greenhouse design and construction, and it does so for a single, long-term cost.

Reasons to Use Polycarbonate Sheets For Greenhouse

From my practical experience, here are five reasons why using our cellular polycarbonate sheets will benefit any size greenhouse project.

[1] Polycarbonate Is A Relatively Light Material

Permanent or semi-permanent structures, as well as quick construction, are required for greenhouses.

This can be accomplished by using low-weight roofs and walls that don’t add significantly to the overall structure’s cost.

Thus, polycarbonate is the best material to cover greenhouses’ sides and tops because of its strength and low weight.

There are no risks of a glass breaking when using cellular polycarbonate because it’s 12 times lighter and easier to install than traditional polycarbonate.

[2] Temperature Control Material That Is Effective

Greenhouses serve a variety of purposes, one of which is to keep certain temperatures under control so that plants can thrive in any weather.

Greenhouses must keep the crop safe from the elements, such as cold and wind.

As a thermally efficient material, cellular polycarbonate keeps a greenhouse’s interior warm in cold weather while using less energy.

You can get different light and heat transmission percentages by varying factors such as paint color, thickness, or a special coating.

[3] Virtually Unbreakable, Unbeatable Impact Resistance

In the event of heavy rain, storms, or high winds, cellular polycarbonate sheets will not break or dent.

The properties of the polycarbonate material make it more resistant and, as a result, have a longer useful life.

This material is also much stronger than polyethylene or glass, allowing it to withstand significantly more damage before breaking.

Polycarbonate is much easier to place and handle than glass because it is much lighter.

Replacing glass sheets can be difficult because you must find the correct size and styrene, whereas replacing polycarbonate sheets is much simpler.

When assembling a greenhouse, glass is a complex component that necessitates a great deal of skill and attention, which raises the cost.

When compared to glass, polycarbonate allows for faster and easier assembly, lowering assembly costs.

Polycarbonate greenhouses are 200 times stronger and more durable than glass and polyethylene greenhouses.

It is simple to disassemble the panels and replace the polycarbonate when the time comes.

Although polycarbonate is a long-lasting material, it must be treated with a UV protector to keep it from fading or breaking.

Polycarbonate can last for ten years if properly cared for.

[4] Humidity And Water Resistance

Cellular polycarbonate keeps water completely out of the greenhouse; even water condensation affecting plants is rare.

In addition to its thermal properties, it must be installed at a minimum 5° angle.

Rainfall will never be a problem for plants in a greenhouse covered with cellular polycarbonate, as previously stated.

[5] Longer Growing Season

The year-round increase in crop yields is made possible by polycarbonate canopies.

A longer growing season allows for more vegetable, fruit, and ornamental plant harvests.

You can naturally extend the growing season by using polycarbonate sheets to help create a warmer greenhouse environment.

This means using less artificial heating, which saves electricity, money, and most importantly, time!

[6] Increased Light Diffusion And Protection From Uv Rays

With its thicker polycarbonate material (compared to glass), polycarbonate offers better light diffusion, ensuring that light is distributed evenly throughout the greenhouse.

The use of polycarbonate covers eliminates the need to raise the plants or use any type of artificial lighting for long periods of the year, particularly between the months of March and October.

As an added benefit, polycarbonate acts as a natural ultraviolet filter, shielding the roots of your plants from potentially harmful ultraviolet light.

[7] Faster Installation

Polycarbonate greenhouses have the additional benefit of being incredibly quick to set up. A polycarbonate greenhouse can be put together in one day.

A similar-sized glass greenhouse would take a lot more time and effort, and that has an impact on both time and money.

If you need to replace the glass of your greenhouse, you may have to close the greenhouse until the work is completed.

But using polycarbonate sheets is a matter of minutes.

[8] The Ability To Withstand The Effects of The Weather

Except in the case of natural disasters, our polycarbonate sheets are guaranteed against weather damage for 10 to 20 years.

You can be sure that its polycarbonate sheets will not yellow, harden, or lose their impact resistance during the warranty period.

I can advise you on the design and cuts required for your greenhouse project, whether it is a home greenhouse or an agro-industrial project.

I also can help you choose the right material for your needs because cellular polycarbonate sheets come in a variety of thicknesses, colors, and types.

I’ll cover the details of selecting the polycarbonate sheets for your greenhouse in another article.
